Packing well for Umrah means bringing what truly matters and leaving the rest. Hotels near the Haram are close to shops for anything you forget, so don’t overpack, but do bring the essentials below.
Ihram and clothing
- For men: two sets of ihram garments (one to wear, one spare), plus a belt with a pouch and comfortable, backless sandals.
- For women: loose, modest clothing in breathable fabrics, and a few scarves.
- For everyone: comfortable, well-worn walking shoes or sandals, you will be on your feet a great deal. A light layer for cool evenings or air-conditioned interiors.
Documents (keep in your carry-on)
- Passport (valid 6+ months) and a printed copy.
- Your travel and hotel confirmation, and visa documents.
- A small amount of local currency (Saudi Riyal) and a card.
- Emergency contacts and your agency’s support number.
Health and comfort
- Any prescription medication, in original packaging, with a few days’ buffer.
- A small first-aid kit: pain relief, blister plasters, rehydration salts.
- Unscented toiletries for use in ihram (scented products are avoided in that state).
- A refillable water bottle, sunglasses, and a hat or umbrella for sun.
Easy-to-forget extras
- A phone power bank and the right plug adapter.
- A small prayer mat and a pocket du’a book.
- Hand sanitiser and a few face masks for crowded areas.
- A lightweight bag for your shoes at the Haram.
Packing for family
If you’re travelling with children or elderly parents (see our family Umrah guide), add snacks, any comfort items for little ones, a lightweight folding wheelchair if needed, and extra supplies of essential medication.
Travel light, worship freely
The goal is to arrive unburdened. Choose a hotel close to the Haram (our hotels guide explains why proximity matters most), pack the essentials above, and let us handle the logistics. When you’re ready, request a quote and we’ll make sure everything else is taken care of.
